Winnona Park Teen Earns Scouting’s Highest Rank

by Annie Dollarhide

Hilldale Drive’s Nick Pilger is now among Scouting’s elite after earning his Eagle ranking, the organization’s highest award.

The St. Pius High School junior and son of John and Sara Pilger celebrated his Eagle Scout Court of Honor Jan. 30 at Agnes Scott College.

“I have learned so much from Scouting, both morally and how to take care of myself,” Nick said in his speech upon receiving the honor. “I do not know what kind of man I would be without Scouting. It has changed the way I live. I believe I think and act differently being a Scout.”

“It is a privilege and honor to be awarded this rank,” Nick added. “I am excited to be with the other Eagle Scouts of the past who are a part of

this special group. I will proudly wear this badge and represent Scouting.”

Since the award’s inception in 1911, just two percent of Scouts in the U.S. have attained the Eagle Scout rank.  Notable Eagles include astronaut Neil Armstrong, former President Gerald Ford and director Steven Spielberg.
